As all of us are aware, the
economic developments that have emerged over the last year have been
challenging and caused institutions, families and individuals to pause. It
would be naïve for us at PBU to think that we are insulated from the present
situation that is affecting our nation and the world. We are attempting to deal
wisely with the current economic situation that has adversely impacted all
organizations in both the for-profit and non-profit worlds. Thankfully, the
University is not in a crisis mode, but we also believe it is important for us
to act wisely and prudently. We wanted to share with you steps that we have
implemented during recent days to address these challenges.
1.
Revenue projections for FY 2009-2010 have been
scaled back based upon our best and most conservative assumptions and budget
savings identified.
2.
Salaries have been frozen and the President’s
Cabinet has taken reduction in salaries.
3.
Faculty and staff have consented to take on
extra responsibilities.
4.
A reduction in force has been implemented. This includes not filling some present open
positions and also eliminating some current positions.
The Assistant Alumni
Director position has been eliminated.
This directly affects Ron Delp, who has been serving in this capacity
these past years. He has been an example
to us all as someone who cares, prays, and celebrates our alumni. He has served the University well and will be
missed. As Ron has advocated for you in
the past, we ask that you would now return the honor and pray for him as well
for God’s guidance concerning his future.
Clarence Johnson remains
the Director of Alumni and Church Relations and he will be continuing his work
to serve you in the days ahead.
As you can imagine these have
been difficult decisions and we have appreciated your prayers. We ask that you
continue to pray for us, for the faculty and staff members who will be seeking
new employment, and for those who remain. The work of PBU goes on and we are striving to
lean forward. I am convinced that we will, by God’s grace, emerge stronger, more
efficient, and more focused on the goals set for the next three years. We will
be monitoring very closely the economic situation and will make whatever
further adjustments are deemed necessary and prudent.
