Evangelical Books Providedfor the Kachin Theological College. Myanmar is a country rich in national resources, but one whose citizens suffer from extreme poverty. Myanmar is a country whose people live under oppressive military control. It’s a country that was blessed by the presence of hundreds of missionaries, but in 1966, all were forced to leave the country.
Nevertheless, God has not forsaken Myanmar. Currently, approximately 500 students are being trained at the Kachin Theological College and its two branch campuses to serve as missionaries, pastors, and teachers.
The College needed books — good, evangelical study books available only from the outside world. The publication of Christian materials in Myanmar is strictly limited by the government. Very few Christian books are available in either the Burmese or Kachin language. The Kachin leadership is especially concerned that these students have access to books that teach correct doctrine. It is important to provide a solid biblical education within Myanmar.
In November 2007, four Kachin leaders met with Philadelphia Biblical University’s president, Dr. Sherrill Babb, and the Dean of Learning Resources, Dr. Timothy Hui, to present their need for books. PBU has agreed to assist a committee of Kachin students and alumni to collect evangelical books for shipment to Myanmar.
You helped make this possible!
Close to 10,000 books were shipped to the college in May of 2008. Thanks to all who helped and provided for this vital ministry.
